Holy Cross Robotics Team Ranks First

(San Antonio, Texas) Holy Cross of San Antonio's Robotics Team ranked first place in the 17th Annual 2010 San Antonio Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics Competition held at St. Mary’s University in Oct. The local competition featured 25 teams from public and private schools in San Antonio and South Texas. 

The Team earned a $50,000 scholarship for one student to attend St. Mary’s University. The selection process is underway. Six of the students will receive $500 each for successfully participating in this Robotics competition and placing first.

“Our team worked really hard this year,” said Mrs. Marina Parra-Noonan, faculty sponsor of the Robotics Team. “This is a tough competition with a short timeline of six weeks. The team would not be where it is without the work done by students, but also by our two mentors, Mr. Charlie Collazo and Mr. Miguel Villela Sr.”

“I am proud of the hard work that the Robotics Team puts into their competitions,” said Mr. Henry Galindo, Principal of Holy Cross of San Antonio. “I appreciate the generosity of St. Mary’s University in awarding a Holy Cross scholar this distinguished scholarship.”

All the teams who successfully competed at the local competitions advanced to compete at the University of North Texas in Denton. The Holy Cross Robotics Team who placed first at the local level qualified to compete at the state level on Nov. 20. The team competed and finished 24 out of 50 teams. This is the third year that Holy Cross places first at the local competition level.

                Holy Cross of San Antonio is an independent Catholic co-educational middle and high school. The Brothers of Holy Cross founded the school in 1957 steeped in tradition and education. Holy Cross serves as the only co-educational college preparatory school centrally located in San Antonio’s Westside. Based on the principles of the Brothers of Holy Cross, the school’s educational mission helps break the cycle of poverty and opens doors to higher education.
