Bounce-Back Opportunity
Knights Travel to Face San Antonio Christian
Both Holy Cross and San Antonio Christian enter week 2 still searching for their first win
of the season, setting the stage for a competitive Friday night matchup between two programs
eager to respond after tough openers.
The Knights came up just short in their rivalry matchup with Antonian, falling 27–20 in a
back-and-forth game. Sophomore quarterback Rocky Orozco (‘28) impressed in his varsity
debut, totaling three touchdowns and nearly 200 yards of offense, while senior running back
Taylor Flores (‘26) paced the ground attack in a team effort that racked up nearly 200 rushing
yards. Despite the loss, Holy Cross showed it has the offensive firepower to hang with anyone.
Holy Cross offensive coordinator Roy Salas came away encouraged but knows the unit
has room to grow. “We had multiple opportunities to take the lead at someone else’s home in
the 3rd and 4th quarters that we didn’t cash in on,” Salas said. “That tells me two things: we
need to fix the mistakes so we don’t waste those opportunities again, and we can play with
anybody. This team CAN PLAY, and we will get better and better with each practice, each rep,
and each play.”
Looking ahead to Week 2, Salas emphasized that the key is consistency. “FINISH!!! We
had a wonderful start last week,” he said. “We established the run game early, we were
efficient with our passing game, and we protected the football. Now we need to sustain that for
four quarters and finish. The key is eliminating communication issues, cutting down on
penalties, and making sure we’re set early so we can confidently make the right calls.”
San Antonio Christian also enters Week 2 at 0–1 after a 28–21 loss to Boerne Geneva.
Senior quarterback Sloan Guillory (‘26) led the way through the air with 203 passing yards and
a touchdown, while Sophomore running back Ethan Young (‘28) provided balance on the ground with
93 rushing yards. Guillory’s top target was Rowan Landsgard, who hauled in 47
receiving yards and a score. Though young, the Lions showed flashes of potential in their opener
and will look to settle in on their home field Friday night.
The matchup carries early-season urgency with both teams searching for their first win. Holy
Cross will aim to build off the momentum created by Orozco and Flores in Week 1, while
SACHS leans on its young offensive trio of Guillory, Young, and Landsgard to establish rhythm.
For both programs, striking early and finishing late may be the difference between leaving Week
2 winless or walking away confidently heading into the rest of the season.
The Knights and Lions kick off this Friday, September 5, at 7 p.m. at San Antonio Christian
School.
