Road to Glory
Previewing the Regional Championship vs Lubbock Christian
The deeper you get into November, the fewer chances you get to make noise. At this point in the season, nothing matters, record or what you did in the regular season. Now, only the games that keep your season alive, or end it, matter. For Holy Cross, Friday afternoon is exactly that kind of moment.
The Knights head to McMurry University to take on Lubbock Christian in the TAPPS Division III Regional Championship, a 4 p.m. kickoff that feels every bit like a state-level matchup. A potential state championship matchup is now set to be seen in just the second round, and Holy Cross is more than fine with that. Because this team doesn’t just want to be on the same field as the best, they want to prove they belong among them.
All year, the message around this program has been the same: any time, any place, anywhere. But it's not just a slogan; it's how they’ve lived. Through injuries and adversity, the Knights have kept their focus on the one thing they can control: the next 48 minutes ahead of them.
Last week, “Home for One More” turned into one more statement. In their Area Championship win over Lake Country Christian, Holy Cross lit up the scoreboard with explosive plays: big throws over the top, long runs, and a special teams touchdown to kick off the night. Sophomore quarterback Rocky Orozco did an excellent job spreading the ball around, the run game was making several big plays all night, and the receivers once again showed how quickly this offense can flip the field.

On offense, Holy Cross brings a balanced attack that can hurt teams in a lot of different ways. The ground game, powered by tough runners and a tough offensive line, sets the tone. The passing game stretches the field with playmakers on the perimeter who can win one-on-one routes and turn routine catches into game-changing plays. When this group is in rhythm, they don't just move the ball; they take the top off defenses.
Defensively, the identity is simple: fast, physical, and relentless. They fly to the football, take pride in tackling, and have a knack for creating momentum with takeaways and key stops. In a game like this, that edge on defense could be the difference.
Friday isn’t about rankings, records, or outside opinions. It’s about one game on a neutral field in Abiline. It’s about a group of players and coaches who have carried belief through everything that has been thrown at them this season and now get the chance to show, once again, that they belong on this stage.
Win, and the Knights move one step closer to where they’ve always believed they could go: the doorstep of a state championship. Lose, and the road ends here.
For Holy Cross, the mindset is clear, and the Road to Glory runs straight through Abilene on Friday at 4 PM.
